Why is selling is like dating?

For every 10 people you reach out to, only 3 will want to see you again. A lot like dating.

These days you have to woo customers and hope they return the attention with loyalty.
Hook them in:

To get someone to call you back, you have to do something memorable to hook them in. Try emailing an article you saw that you think they may be interested in, or send them some quick birthday wishes . No one likes a stalker, so be respectful of their busy schedule and give them time to respond.

Listen:

Don’t talk about yourself the whole time. There is nothing more annoying that feeling you are being ignored. Are you Paying attention? Truly listening to a response is very important, rather than going straight into your standard automated responses.

Don’t reveal too much:

Make sure the conversation is something your customer can relate to. Reveal something about yourself, something small that isn’t too personal. A study of Consumer Research show that is a salesperson share a birthday with you, you’re more likely to purchase from that person and feel confident in your choice.

Be patient:

All good things take time. Like many important things in life, patience is essential in developing a lasting relationship. Fight the urge to be pushy and trust that it will take time to cultivate this new customer. Studies show there are psychological stages to the buying process and that you have to know when and where you are needed. Noone likes to feel rushed or hustled.

Close the deal:

Create that sense of urgency and get them to commit. A closing conversation can always be a little nerve wracking, as there is always a chance you may lose to the competitors. A yes or no, can hinge on your closing statement.

All good things take time, so don’t rush the process too much.
