As part of any great marketing strategy, you should be getting in front of your customers in more than a few different ways, including newsletters.
Let’s get this out on the table, newsletters get a bad rep and I’m a believer that they work. Just because some people get bombed with emails they don’t remember signing up for, this doesn’t mean that newsletters themselves are not a great marketing tool.
Studies show that email marketing is hands down more cost effective and budget friendly when it comes to return on investment. One social media post I saw said you can get a return of up to $30-$40 dollars back for every $1 spent on sending out a newsletter.
Just because some people get spammed with newsletters, does not mean that they don’t work.
Top 8 reasons your business needs to send newsletters.
These are my top reasons why your business should be sending newsletters.
1., A newsletter can be as useful as another sales person. A newsletter won’t get lost in everyone’s social media ‘news feeds’ and your recipient can read it at their own leisure, working for you all hours of the day. Your newsletters are not at the mercy of an algorithm.
2. Newsletters are great for nurturing an already warm lead. If someone has signed up to your newsletter, this shows they are interested in your products and services. Why waste a lead? Keep that communication going.
3. You shouldn’t have all your eggs in one basket. If Facebook goes down, gets hacked or shuts down your business page,,, like it did not long ago. Then you are at their mercy. Great insurance is to have your own database independent to any social media.
4. Newsletters are easily tracked and reported on. Other more passive marketing channels are harder to track if they sent you a leads. Newsletters software provides great reporting on a vast array of useful analytics. Therefore using these stats, helps you to see where your sales are coming from and which channels are working best for you.
5. Not all your customers use social media. If you have done a complete persona profile for your business, you should know what and where your customers are searching for new products.
6. Newsletters build trust. We all know that social media is full of fake news, fake followers and filtered photos. Newsletters hold more value with customers in regards to building trust. For example, if you send out useful, value driven content in your newsletters, you will not only gain their trust, but build your reputation as an industry leader.
7. Newsletters can help you boost traffic to your website. Once someone clicks on the link in your email, you have an amazing opportunity to capture that lead and direct them through the sales funnel on your website.
8. Newsletters are cost effective. Mailchimp, one of the largest Newsletter software platforms, has done studies that discovered the average open rate is usually between 18-30% (depending on your industry). Can you say that 25% of your followers read all your social media posts? Therefore it’s more cost efficient for you to be spending your time sending newsletters than painfully trying to get the right light, angle and filter for your latest instagram post.
Ignore the companies that mis-use email marketing, and start thinking of newsletters as a great way to grow your business. Make sure it features in your marketing strategy this year.
